Care tips – How to keep your jewelry beautiful for a long time
Jewelry – just like clothing – needs the right care so that it retains its shine and beauty for a long time. With a few simple measures, you can significantly extend the life of your jewelry.
Gentle cleaning for a long-lasting shine Use a microfiber cloth or a soft cotton cloth to avoid scratches and damage. Alternatively, a soft toothbrush is also suitable for gently cleaning hard-to-reach areas.
Protection against discoloration & loss of shine Improper care or contact with certain substances can affect the surface of jewelry. To prevent discoloration or tarnishing, follow these tips:
Silver jewelry can tarnish or become dull through sweat. Avoid wearing jewelry when doing housework, gardening or sports.
Warm water with a mild detergent is sufficient for cleaning. Then dry the jewelry with a soft cloth or hair dryer.
Frosted surfaces should not be cleaned with silver cleaning cloths. Instead, use an eraser or a toothbrush with a little toothpaste to remove light stains.
Proper storage for long-lasting beauty
Store jewelry in airtight bags or in the original jewelry box. A small piece of aluminum foil in the bag can also help to prevent oxidation.
To prevent scratches, jewelry should not rub against each other. Store them separately from each other.
Refresh matt silver
Frosted jewelry can become scratched over time. The shine can be restored by gentle polishing.
A specialist store can help with re-matting – or you can try it yourself with a fine sanding fleece.
Make sure you retain the original direction of the structure when re-matting. Special care must be taken with jewelry with stones!
Avoid chemicals, perfume & water
Contact with perfume, cosmetics, chlorine and salt water can permanently damage jewelry.
Gold-plated jewelry in particular is sensitive to chemicals and can lose its color.
Jewelry should ideally be taken off before showering, as shower gels and shampoos can damage the surface.
Taking off jewelry at night
To avoid wear and tear due to perspiration or friction with bed linen, we recommend taking off jewelry before going to bed.
Necklaces and earrings in particular can disturb or be damaged during sleep.
Of course, it is up to you to decide whether you want to wear important pieces of jewelry such as your wedding ring at night.
With the right care, you can preserve the beauty and shine of your favorite pieces for many years to come!
